@Γερμανικός ποιμενικός -- #Animal Breed Fans 893959 and 0 are talking about this page The German Shepherd is a breed of medium to large-sized working dog that originated in Germany. The breed´s officially recognized name is German Shepherd Dog in the English language, sometimes abbreviated as GSD and was also formerly known as the Alsatian in Britain. The German Shepherd is a relatively new breed of dog, with their origin dating to 1899. As part of the Herding Group, German Shepherds are working dogs developed originally for herding sheep. Since that time however, because of their strength, intelligence, trainability, and obedience, German Shepherds around the world are often the preferred breed for many types of work, including disability assistance, search-and-rescue, police and military roles, and even acting. The German Shepherd is the second-most registered breed by the American Kennel Club and fourth-most registered breed by The Kennel Club in the United Kingdom.DescriptionGerman Shepherds are medium to large-sized dogs. The breed standard height at the withers is 60- for males and 55- for females. The weight standard is 30– for males and 22– for females. They have a domed forehead, a long square-cut muzzle with strong jaws and a black nose. The eyes are medium-sized and brown with a lively, intelligent and self-assured look. The ears are large and stand erect, open at the front and parallel, but they often are pulled back during movement. They have a long neck, which is raised when excited and lowered when moving at a fast pace. The tail is bushy and reaches to the hock.

We do not euthanise animals for economic reasons. The only time an animal will be euthanised is in the case of aggressive temperament (with no hope for rehabilitation) or the animal is extremely unwell and the prognosis is not favourable.
Animals are rescued from death row pounds, puppy farms and the community. Animals who do not require rehabilitation are kept at our shelter whilst waiting to be adopted into a new homes. Animals which require rehabilitation are placed into approved foster homes, with all medical and like expenses paid by Pets Haven. Once the animal has recovered, the animal is also placed up for adoption.
All animals in our care are vet checked, desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and scanned for ringworm. Every animal is temperament tested prior to arrival at the shelter. The staff and volunteers then spend time getting to know each animal so that they can help prospective adopters make an educated decision on whether the animal they are interested in is suitable for them. If a Pets Haven staff member does not think an adoption is appropriate, the adoption will not proceed. The correct environment, home, lifestyle and family for our animals are our greatest concerns. Our animals have already gone through enough pain and uncertainty, they need homes that will last a lifetime.
We also take in unwell animals and cruelty cases and we provide the required veterinary treatment and after care. The animals that come to us mistreated, malnourished, abused or neglected often require extensive medical treatment and we always provide what they require to recover. Foster carers help immensely as they provide a wonderful, safe, loving home environment where the rehabilitation process can occur.
Thank you for visiting our Facebook page, we hope we are able to help you find your perfect furkid. After adopting we can also help you get through any rough spots by offering training tips and other advice.

Like humans, animals are capable of suffering and have interests in leading their own lives; therefore, they are not ours to use – for food, clothing, experimentation, entertainment or any other reason. PETA and our affiliates around the world educate policymakers and the public about cruelty to animals and promote an understanding of the right of all animals to be treated with respect.
PETA works through public education, research, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement and protest campaigns. PETA believes in non-violence and does not advocate or support actions in which anyone, human or non-human, is harmed. PETA is a charitable organisation that works to educate the public about the horrors of cruelty to animals through peaceful means. PETA believes that animals have rights and deserve to have their best interests taken into consideration, regardless of whether they are useful to humans. Like you, they are capable of suffering and have an interest in leading their own lives.
